Winners of Giveaway and Question

Winners of the last book giveaway for Photo Snap Shot by Joanna Campbell are Mystica and Stella.  Congratulations guys.  They were the only ones who entered, so we won't be having any book giveaways for awhile since that doesn't seem to be of interest.  Perhaps everybody is out playing in the summer sun!

Question for everybody - Do you read more or less in the summer?  We hear about "Beach Reads"  but how much do you really read during the summer heat?  I don't think I vary too much by season really.

Does your taste in books change from summer to winter?  This is not a scientific survey :-) but I am curious.  Please chime in.

On a completely different topic, some of you may have noticed how I have a siamese cat as the mascot of the blog.  That is in honor of my best furry-friend who died about 4 years ago.  This weekend I went to a local pet rescue and adopted an adult siamese who has had a rough time of it.  She was in a family but the toddler apparently was not cat-friendly and she has been living from cage to cage since then.  Just as this sweet cat was starting to bond to the rescue person she is being carted around to pet fairs.  I had found her online in my search - even got to email the family who had to give her up.  She came home with us Saturday and she is having a rough adjustment period.  I have been bit a few times that have drawn blood (OUCH!) but overall I think she is beginning to settle in a bit - I hope.  This gal's name is Paris (originally Sky, but we will be working on changing that.)  She is apparently camera shy as well - she would turn away from the camera no matter what I did.  So please welcome the newest addition to our little family.

Please consider adopting from a shelter if you are looking for a pet.  I used http://www.petfinder.com/ and found they gather information from multiple shelters.

Congratulations on your new kitty! I adopted a fluffy white kitten from a local humane society two years ago, and it was the best decision I ever made. I've never met a more affectionate, loving cat.

Siamese can be tricky to place because they tend to be vocal and have strong personalities, as you know! Good for you for giving a homeless animal a new start!

I've had the same problems with giveaways on my blog. I keep reading that they attract lots of interest, but no one seems to care.

Story Teller,

By Best-furry-friend that passed was a Siamese and I just adored her. I don't mind them talking so much - I just wish I knew what they were saying! I feel like I am not understanding that she wants something. We knew we wanted to adopt an adult cat and give it a second chance. Other than the un-provoked biting she is a lover.

Yes, it is hard to gauge what the readership of the blog want. Some blogs have readers who comment alot but mine don't seem to. For awhile the giveaways got a lot of participation, but not so much now - and since they don't tend to leave comments I don't know what is going on! Very hard to understand and adjust to what they want when you don't know.

Keeps me guessing! I have become a follower of your blog - very interesting!

I'm really sorry for your loss, A.F. I lost two cats before I adopted Chloe - one I'd had for twelve years and handraised from a kitten, and the other a recent adoptee from the humane society who ended up having a liver disease. So I know how terrible it is to lose a furry friend.

I have the same issues with determining the desires of my audience. I've tried to provide valuable content, in the form of an "Ask the Expert" series, but I get a much greater response when I just write from the heart. If it wasn't for a site meter to tell me that people are reading, I wouldn't even know some days!

You have a great blog, and I'm happy to be a follower. Thanks for following me.

Congrats on the new addition to your family. I have a special fondness for Siamese cats. Anyway, I hope she settles in soon. =)

Regarding your questions...
I'm definitely less active on the computer in the summer, which makes it more difficult to determine my reading habits, but I believe I read less in the summer as well. I'm not sure why... it's not like I'm any more active in the summer than the rest of the yr.

For your 2nd question... I go through phases when I read, period. Like lately I've been on a historical romance phase with some fantasy books tossed in. Nothing to do with the season. I just suddenly feel like reading one genre or author, and when I tire of it (or exhaust it in the case of some less prolific authors), I move on to a differnt phase.

Jo,
Thank you for commenting. I hear you on the phases! You get to see my phases - like I have been in a more historical phase lately.

I tried reading seasonally related books and I find I got frustrated when I had a book I wanted to read that didn't match the season. So that was out.

LOL!

Coming in a bit late but I hope she has settled in now. Unsettling for the cat and the family as well.
