I receive many free copies of books to be considered for review (Berkley, NAL, Dutton, Minotaur, TLC Book Tours, Bantam, and Midnight Ink.) I am set up on NetGalley and prefer that whenever possible. It is my
decision whether to post a review or not. I receive no monetary
compensation for any reviews I post and I give my honest opinion of the
book. And I review other books such as library finds and an occasional self-published author.
I have a huge backlog of books to read (an entire book case), so I truly RARELY take self-published authors - simply because I am swamped with so many books I am planning on reading...and I am a slow reader.
Remember - it MUST be a mystery/suspense fiction. I will not even reply to other book genres. NO ROMANCES, which includes romantic suspense. Please look at what I have already reviewed and liked, to gauge if your work is similar. I will be honest that I am very burned out on small-town Southern settings, so don't even bother with those.

I will give a personal recommendation with general terms at the end of
reviews. The basic phrasing is below, but it may vary a smidgen
depending on the situation.
I also take into consideration the
specific genre of the book. What is near perfect for a cozy is
completely different than near perfect for a suspense or police
procedural.
Ratings:
Near Perfect - Buy two copies: one for you and one for a friend.
Excellent - Loved it! Buy it now and put this author on your watch list
Good - A fun read-it was good. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. I would recommend based on certain tastes. Maybe read an excerpt before buying.
Okay – A few good points but this book needed something pretty different for me to fully enjoy it.
Poor - I had to force myself to finish it. Fatally flawed in my eyes on multiple levels or simply not for me at all.
I am hoping that this is better than just a rating and yet still provides a level of recommendation.
